- National-level fuel emission factors for Canada (natural gas, coal/coke, and other fuels), also sourced from the NIR
- Canada added to the
Energy network field, enabling province-level factor assignment per asset
- Canadian factors included in a new default emission factor set
How it works
- Electricity factors are broken down by province and applied when the correct
Energy network region is assigned to a Canadian asset
- The
Energy network field must be populated for province-level factors to apply — entering State/province alone is not sufficient
- If no
Energy network is assigned, Scaler defaults to the national-level Canadian factor
- Fuel factors (natural gas, coal/coke, etc.) are not broken down by province in every case; provincial breakdown applies where the NIR provides it
- Source data covers reporting years up to 2023, which represents the most recent available data from the NIR at the time of this release
- Forward-looking projections: Scaler does not yet have dedicated Canadian decarbonization pathways. As a temporary proxy, the 2023 emission factor is held flat through 2050. This approach will be updated in a future release, likely using a CRREM-aligned decarbonization rate or a combination of that rate with the latest NIR figures
Where to find it
Data Collection Portal → Portfolio → Emission Factors
Canadian assets will appear in the Emission Factor Tool once meters with consumption data are configured. Assign the correct Energy network to apply province-level factors.

The NIR source document used is: National Inventory Report: Greenhouse Gas Sources and Sinks in Canada, 1990–2023. Values were extracted from the PDF tables and converted where necessary (including volume-to-energy conversions for fuels using archived conversion factor data)

The flat-factor projection approach is a known interim limitation. A forward-looking pathway for Canada is planned, pending review of available decarbonization scenarios
